Austria - Saalbach-Hinterglemm - Hinterglemm

Hinterglemm

Hinterglemm - the ultimate winter holiday!

The villages of Hinterglemm and Saalbach have long since grown together and have especially made a name for themselves with the perfect connection of sports, huts and nightlife. At an altitude of approx. 1,000 m lies the well-known village of Hinterglemm in the middle of the breathtaking mountain scenery. The Glemm Valley used to be a poor farmers' valley, today it entices with lively villages and a winter sports paradise. The bypass tunnel means the centre is virtually car-free, so that it's possible to take an easy stroll through the pedestrian zone. The route to the lifts and pistes is short, and the sporting, apres ski and culture opportunities leave nothing to be desired.
There is almost every activity here, that you may wish to partake in! Besides some relaxed shopping in the pedestrian zone you can also try tobogganing, snow rafting and snow tubing or a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride.

Since December 2015 the lift pass "Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Fieberbrunn" gives you access to seamless skiing fun on incredible 270 km of piste in the new lift connection "Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn". With its motto "two federal states, one ski lift", the connection between the Skicircus and Fieberbrunn with a total of 83 lifts and a huge selection of piste can be counted among the largest ski areas in the world.

The new 10 person gondola puts the new connection into practice and increases the selection of pistes by 20 percent. The new gondola runs from the valley station Reckmoos-South to the middle station at the valley of Hörndlingergraben, and finally up to the Reiterkogel, i.e. the ski area's centre. On an altitude of 2,100 m, pure fun on the slopes is guaranteed! The ski circus offers numerous beautiful carving slopes, mogul pistes, steep slopes, a racing track with time keeping and two flood-lit pistes. Huge amounts of snow making system cater for guaranteed snow.

If you're looking to explore sportive slopes around Hinterglemm and would also like to pass several metres in altitude, you're recommended to try the approx. 23 km long Hinterglemm circuit. It leads around the resort on both sides of the Glamm valley's slopes. Freestylers on the other hand can let off steam in the Funpark Hinterglemm. It awaits you with a halfpipe (length: 70 m, height: 4 m), rails, funbox, corner, big air, straight jump, banks, BX parcous and an area for snow skaters, so that both freestylers and boardercross freaks will definitely get their money's worth.

Pros can show off their skills on the pistes "Zwölferkogel Nord" and "Schattberg Nord". Wonderful freeride opportunities can be found at the Zwölferkogel West and Schattberg-West, but those are definitely only reserved for true professionals. In the whole ski circus there are more than 30 Wi-Fi hotspots available.

If the new lift connection still isn't big enough for you, we can recommend you to upgrade your lift pass to the Kitzbüheler Alpen AllStarCard (see ski region). It is valid for the ski areas Wilder Kaiser - Brixental, Schneewinkel, and Ski Juwel (Alpbachtal and Wildschönau), among others. The lift pass invites you to experience limitless skiing fun in 9 ski regions in Tyrol and Salzburg on over 1,000 kilometres of piste!

Fans of apres ski can look forward to staying in Hinterglemm - the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang was awarded for its numeros apres ski possibilities. Already during the day, around 40 rustically cosy huts invite you in to toast to a perfect day's skiing, and are the magnet of apres ski. A visit to the "Hinterhagalm", the "Kuhstalls" and the "Bauer's Skialm" is compulsory for every apres ski fan! Numerous bars and pubs in all style variations continue this in the evening and invite you in to party and flirt. Even the discos have something for every music taste, whether that be rock, pop, rave, techno, foxtrot or a waltz. Those looking for Oktoberfest atmosphere in the middle of winter will find exactly that in the AsitzBräu at the mountain station of the Asitzbahn lift, at an altitude of 1,763 m.

For anyone who would prefer it a bit cosier, there are numerous restaurants and cafés available. Just ask your host where you can eat the original "Pinzgauer meals". Or take a relaxing stroll through the virtually car-free village.

Sporty alternatives are also easily found here: indoor tennis, ice skating, fun toboggan runs, fast snow-tubing sessions or a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride - there is surely something for everyone here. If you're looking for something more extraordinary, you will find paradise in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Whether on the ice go-kart track, the Glemmy Offroad Park for Snow quads or at Snowmobil City, you can experience the rush of speed in many places other than the ski area.

Hinterglemm and the surrounding region offers a small but marvellous cross-country area. There is a 2 km long high-altitude trail at 1,000 -1,400 m (ascent with the Reiterkogel gondola) and a 10 km long stretch in the area of Hinterglemm, which leads down to the Lindlingalm. In Leogang you will find a further 38 km of cross-country trails. And still the cross-country areas in Leogang and Maishofen (6 km) connect to the widespread network of the Saalachtal valley, which has a further 145 kilometres of perfectly prepared pistes available for use.
