Puerto Pollensa

Puerto Pollensa was originally a fishing port but it’s situation in a wide sandy bay Puerto Pollensa has developed as a popular vibrant a popular family and holiday resort. The beach runs all the way down to Alcudia – though after Puerto Pollensa is does become a little wind blown. The beach has all amenities – sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, bars, cafes, pedalos, windsurfers and sailing boats for hire. Further down the beach are wind and kite surfing schools. The Pine Walk is a nice evening stroll along the promenade – the beach to one side while on the other a selection of bars and restaurants to stop at. At the northern end of the resort is a military base – you will often see the Seaplane taking off and landing in the bay.

The area around the port has been developed over recent years into a tourist centre, but the old town in the centre of the resort dates back to the 18th century, and is well worth a visit. A favourite way to appreciate the area is to walk along the pine walk, which is lined with 19th century houses, plus pavement cafes and bars.

The resort offers plenty of family-friendly accommodation, and a wide range of places to eat from simple cafes to high class restaurants. There is also a wide range of food on offer, from the standard British, Chinese & Indian cuisines to Spanish Bodegas serving traditional Majorcan food, including the famous Paella.

There are two main beaches in the resort, Albercutx and Pollensa beach, both with fine white sand, and are great for families as the water is warm and clear. The waters are also great for people who want to go water-skiing, windsurfing, scuba diving or sailing.

Ferry boats leave from the actual port area each morning to access the fabulous beach at Formentor. An alternative is the walk through the Boquer Valley to Cala Boquer – a beautiful walk through a tranquil valley but the beach is not sandy – but very quiet. Remember to take plenty of water with you.

There is a huge range of bars, cafes, shops and restaurants in Puerto Pollensa – from Burger King through to typically Mallorcan! There is a large supermarket on the outskirts of the resort open from 8am through to 8pm Mondays to Saturday. The Supermarket is also open on a Sunday to 6pm
